So ein Milchdieb!

– Es gibt wahrlich viele Weg um eine Wiese in eine Wildblumenwiese zu verwandeln.

Doch um eines kommt man nicht herum: Der dichte Süßgrasteppich muss leider weichen, damit den Blütenpflanzen Platz gemacht werden kann. Darauf folgt ein aufwendiger Prozess bei stickstoffreichen Böden, der ein Absammeln der Mahd involviert, als auch ein Unterpflügen von Kalk involvieren kann.

Der Prozess ist ein Bodenverschlechterungsprozess und kann bei den guten Böden hier im Rheinland Jahre dauern.

Es gibt aber noch einen dritten Weg und dieser involviert die Pflanze "Zottiger Klappertopf" (Rhinanthus alectorolophus). Der Klappertopf ist ähnlich wie die Mistel ein Halbparasit. Mit seinen Saugwarzen an den Wurzeln entzieht er Süßgraswurzeln Zucker und andere Nährstoffe. Dies führt zum Weichen des Süßgrases an den Stellen mit Klappertopf (hier in der Bildmitte, Pflanze mit den gelben Blüten). Milchdieb! nennt man den Klappertopf auch, da er Weidegras reduziert, was bei uns aber sehr erwünscht ist.

Auch für Pferdewiesen wäre das eine Lösung, denn Reiter klagen ja oft über Probleme mit Hufrehe aufgrund von zu fruktanhaltigem Süßgrasbewuchs. –

However, there is a third way and this involves the plant “shaggy rattle” (Rhinanthus alectorolophus). Like mistletoe, the rattle pot is a semi-parasite. With its sucking warts on the roots, it extracts sugar and other nutrients from sweet grass roots. This causes the sweet grass to soften in the areas with rattle pot (here in the center of the picture, plant with the yellow flowers). The rattle is also known as the milk thief, as it reduces pasture grass, which is very desirable here.

This would also be a solution for horse pastures, as riders often complain about problems with laminitis due to sweet grass growth containing too much fructan. –
